Wings Ink Howard

Detroit signs blue-chip netminder to entry level contract..
The Wings signed GT Jimmy Howard to an entry level contract today. Howard comes to the wings from UMaine after appearing in 82 games with an impressive 1.84GAA and pitching a school record 15 shutouts.
This is the future for the wings in net.. Now I just wish they would have let him finish his collegiate career at UMaine and play for another national title.. Instead Jimmy Ho is going to play back up to Joey MacDonald on a bad Grand Rapids Griffins team before MAYBE starting in GR next year..
Another disappointing decision made by Kenny H

I won't call it a bad deal by Holland. The Wings went 4 deep in goalies last (played) season with all of the injuries going around. He'll also see pro shooters in practice, so it won't be a total loss in his development. I'm suprised that Howard (and any other collegiate player) made the jump to the pros with less money to go around in the new system.

Guess now I'll have to break my yearly traditional pick of Maine in the NCAA finals.

maybe more disappointing from the college hockey fan in me.. would have loved to have seen J HO win a national title before he came to GR (only if my maize and blue can win it)
